75 years since the birth of corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine L.F. Hulyanytskyi

21.05.2026

On May 21, 2026, the renowned Ukrainian scientist in the field of cybernetics and informatics, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Leonid Fedorovych Hulyanytskyi, will celebrate his 75th birthday.

In 1973, Leonid Fedorovych graduated from the Faculty of Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University, specializing in "Applied Mathematics." Leonid Fedorovych began his professional career in 1973 as a junior researcher in the research sector of this university while studying in its postgraduate program. After completing his postgraduate studies, since 1976 he has worked at the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 2011, he has been the head of the Department of Combinatorial Optimization and Intelligent Information Technologies at the Institute of Cybernetics. In 2005, he defended his doctoral dissertation, and in 2021 he was elected a corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine.

The scientific research of L.F. Hulyanytskyi concerns problems and methods of combinatorial optimization and intelligent information technologies. He proposed an original approach to creating model-oriented cooperative algorithms for combinatorial optimization, developed and studied hybrid algorithms and metaheuristics designed to solve a wide range of complex optimization problems, developed parallel algorithms tested on SKIT family supercomputers for solving optimization problems in science, technology, and economics, and developed a number of models and methods for medium-term macroeconomic forecasting used in decision-making at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. He proposed several information technologies to support decision-making under conditions of uncertainty and risk. These technologies have been applied in creating the information-analytical system of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as various applied computer systems.

L.F. Hulyanytskyi is the author of over 250 scientific works, including 6 monographs and textbooks. His works cover, in particular, a wide range of issues related to support and optimization of decisions in planning UAV missions and hybrid mobile robotic systems, developing mathematical models of emerging problems and swarm intelligence algorithms for their solution, on the basis of which components of corresponding intelligent information technologies are developed.

For outstanding scientific achievements, L.F. Hulyanytskyi has been awarded high honors, including the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2009), the V.M. Glushkov Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2007), the V.S. Mykhalevych Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2017), as well as the S.O. Lebedev Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2026) for the series of works "Models and Methods of Computational Intelligence for Planning Swarm Missions and Territory Coverage Ensuring the Security of Distributed Systems."

The team of the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the NAS of Ukraine, colleagues, and friends sincerely congratulate Leonid Fedorovych on his anniversary, wishing him strong health, joy, and inspiration for many years of fruitful creative work, strong health, happiness, and well-being.
