Joint Research of the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems

09.09.2025

The research team of the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine continues successful collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems as part of the EIRENE Max Planck-Ukraine Cooperation & Mobility Grant program. The research, funded by the Max Planck Society (Germany), focuses on sparse data structures in the context of high-performance computing (HPC) for solving linear algebra problems—adaptive algorithms and technologies.

As part of the program, Dr. Olena Nikolaevska, Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences and researcher at the V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics, visited Germany to participate in joint research with the scientific group led by Professor Dr. Peter Benner from the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems. The visit took place during hybrid-format seminars held in January and December 2024.

During the meeting, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Khimich delivered an opening speech, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation for the development of science and technology in the field of high-performance computing.

Olena Nikolaevska presented an introductory report on the department's research and a talk titled "Solving Incorrect Problems in Conditions of Approximate Data with Singular Matrices." The project leader, Oleksii Chystiakov, gave two online presentations: "Solution of SLAE for Bordered Block-Diagonal Matrices. Solution of SLAE for Skyscraper Matrices" and "The Solution of the AEP for Bordered Block-Diagonal Matrices. Solution of AEP for Skyscraper Matrices." Other participants also joined online. The joint seminars have become an important platform for exchanging experience and research results.

The Ukrainian partner group is receiving funding from the Max Planck Society for three years (from June 2023 to May 2026), ensuring further development of joint research and technological innovations in the field of adaptive algorithms and high-performance computing.
